1.1.13.2. Forward pneumosafety cushions of SRS

GENERAL INFORMATION

SRS pneumosafety cushions (additional system of deduction) are designed for providing to the driver and ahead sitting passenger of additional protection in addition to the main protection provided by seat belts.

The pneumopillow of the passenger is put in action, even if on a forward seat there is no passenger. Be convinced, that the seat belt was fastened properly.
Prevention

The driver or the passenger sitting too close to a steering wheel or an instrument guard, at a naduvaniye of a pneumopillow can be seriously injured, and the deadly outcome is not excluded. We urgently recommend the following:

– The driver should sit as it is possible further from a steering wheel as far as it is possible for normal driving.
– Ahead sitting passenger should be as it is possible further from an instrument guard.
– All passengers should be properly fastened by seat belts.

This indicator is highlighted, if the ignition key will turn in the situation "ACC" or "ON". It dies away approximately in 6 seconds. It means that pneumopillows of system of additional deduction work normally.

This system of warning light signals supervises sensors of a forward pneumosafety cushion of SRS, the device of sensors of a pneumosafety cushion, the delivery devices, warning light signal, system of connecting wires and power supplies.

The pneumosafety cushion of SRS is designed for actuating in reply to strong forward blow within the shaded site between shooters in drawing.


There are cases when the pneumosafety cushion of SRS does not work on such blow, however the passenger with the seat belt fastened properly will not get a serious trauma.

The pneumosafety cushion of SRS will be developed, if the size of influence exceeds a settlement limit, comparable approximately with direct collision with a motionless barrier which is not displaced and is not deformed at speed of the car of 25 km/h.

If the size of influence is lower than the specified threshold level, the pneumosafety cushion of SRS can not be developed.

However threshold value of speed will be much higher, if the car faces such object, as the parked car or a road sign which can move or be deformed, or at the bottom collision (for example when the front of the car "got" under a truck body).

At collision on the verge of admissible level for sensitivity of sensors of system of pneumopillows can be that one of them will be developed only.

The pneumosafety cushion of SRS is designed so that it will not be inflated, if the car is subject to a side-winder or behind if it turns over or will be involved in forward collision on low speed.

Pneumosafety cushions of SRS can be developed in case of serious shock impact on the bottom party of the car. Some examples are shown in drawing.

Main components of system of a pneumosafety cushion of SRS

The device of sensors of pneumopillows consists of sensors of admissible influence and sensors of operation of pneumopillows.

In reply to strong forward blow sensors define delay of speed of movement and put in action delivery pumps of pneumopillows. Then chemical reaction in delivery pumps leads to instant filling of pneumopillows with nontoxical nitric gas to keep passengers from advance.

When filling pneumopillows quite loud noise will be audible and the smoke with nontoxical gas will be allocated. This gas does not mean ignition. It harmless, but at at whom gentle skin, it can cause her insignificant irritation. Do not forget to wash away the remains for prevention even small irritation of skin.

Expansion of pneumopillows occurs in fractions of a second as the airbag is inflated with a significant force. While the system has the purpose reduction of serious damages, it can cause small burns, grazes.

Parts of the block of a pneumopillow (the plug of a steering wheel, an instrument guard) can be some minutes hot, however the pneumopillow not will hot. Pneumopillows are calculated on single filling.

At rather strong collision at which pneumopillows will be filled, the windshield and coupling brackets of the car can break. In cars with a pneumopillow for the passenger the windshield can be also damaged.

The system of a pneumopillow has the service warning indicator for informing of the driver on functional problems.
If will occur any of the following actions, it means malfunction of pneumopillows. Address as soon as possible to the dealer of Toyota for car check.

The light indicator is not highlighted, when the ignition key turns in the situation "ACC" or "ON" or remains included.

The light indicator is highlighted during driving.
Prevention



In the following cases address to the dealer of Toyota as soon as possible:

 – SRS pneumosafety cushions were developed;
 – the car front (shaded in drawing) was involved in failure, but not to such an extent that pneumopillows of additional system of deduction were inflated;
 – the section of a pillow of a steering wheel or a pneumopillow cover ahead of the sitting passenger (shaded in drawing) are scratched, burst or are damaged.
